Who was Jainulabiddin Marakayar?
On 15 October 1931, in Rameshwaram, Madras, a boy was born to Jainulabiddin Markayar, who was named APJ Abdul Kalam. Jainulabdeen Markayar was the father of Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. His wife’s name was Ashiamma Jainulabiddin. Jainulabdeen Markyar was the owner of a boat and imam of a mosque. His wife Ashiamma Jainulabdeen was a housewife.
Jainulabdeen Markayar owned a ferry that carried Hindu pilgrims back and forth between Rameswaram and the now-deserted Dhanushkodi. Jainulabdeen Markyar had 4 sons and a daughter, one of whom we know today as APJ Abdul Kalam. Jainulabdeen Markyar always had a dream that he wanted to make India a superpower in technology and his dream was fulfilled by his son Abdul Kalam.
Jainulabdeen Markyar did not like luxuries and he preferred to stay away from all these, he was not very rich but in spite of this he kept his children well and did as much as he could for his children. He raised his children very well, which resulted in his son Abdul Kalam being known as Missile Man and the 14th President of India.
