- Grover Cleveland worked as a teacher of the blind at the New York Institute for the Blind in Manhattan.
- He avoided serving in the military during the Civil War because he paid a fee of $300 instead.
- Grover became known as ‘Uncle Jumbo’ while serving as the governor of New York, between 1882 and 1884.
