Julia Gardiner Tyler was the Second wife of John Tyler, the 10th President of the United States of America. They got married in 1844, when his first wife, Letitia Christian Tyler, died from what could be described as tuberculosis. Julia became one of the First Ladies of the United States. She was beautiful, graceful, and politically powerful compared to Tyler’s predecessors’ wives; she participated actively in the presidency.

Early Life

Julia Gardiner was the first daughter of David and Juliana Gardiner she was born on the 4th of May in 1820 in East Hampton, New York City. Well-educated from childhood that came from affluent, she mingled with the elites within New York. Blessed with beauty and elegance, Julia is a nobody’s sweetheart as far as society is concerned at this age. His father was a wealthy merchant and as a little girl, she was privileged to grow up in two houses in New York and Long Island. This upbringing in political and social background also prepared her to marry President John Tyler.

Julia Tyler Marriage Marriage

Julia Gardiner married John Tyler on June 26, 1844, when she was 24 years of age, and the groom was 54 years of age. The couple got together in 1842 and upon Tyler’s becoming a widower of his first and younger wife Letitia. They had real affection for each other and they had two children out of this marriage. Some people were shocked that Julia married Tyler because they had a big age gap, but everyone witnessed that they were possibly one of the most affectionate couples in Hollywood. Martha Todd, Johnson, was the First Lady during her husband’s tenure, participated in affairs of state, and provided popular sociable dinners, cementing her seat in Washington society.

Julia Tyler, however, did live for years after her husband’s death, she died on the 10th of July in 1889, at the age of sixty- nine. She retired from the White House and later lived in Virginia as well as engaged in other social activities. In her later years, Julia spent her time quietly although she continued enjoying herself like a distinguished First Lady. She could not avoid getting deeply involved in preserving the husbandataloader’s memory and fighting for the children’s future. The death of Julia was natural and she was buried in a Hollywood Cemetery, in Richmond, Virginia, beside her husband.
